A BEYOND OMELAS PRODUCTION
Tied Island” is a short documentary (20-25 minutes) that explores the superstitions, folklore, the mysterious past and uncertain future of the Isle of Portland.
Directed and produced by Molly Mason and Rebekah Llewelyn, “Tied Island" is a short documentary that discusses themes of isolation and confinement in British identity, asylum and life after incarceration on the Island of Portland - a UNESCO-designated site on the Jurassic Coast. Despite being in many recent headlines due to the presence of the Bibby Stockholm refugee barge, little to no attention has been afforded to the people of the island. The film will unearth the island's hidden narratives that have shaped its identity through various characters; and how the island has shaped the identity of its people, the interaction between prisons and public, and between asylum seekers and their host communities.
